People give many reasons for volunteering; it can be a route into employment, a chance to try something new or an opportunity to give something back to the local community. Volunteering can be seen as a way of:
- Gaining new skills
- Improving employment prospects
- Meeting new people and making friends
- Getting to know the local community
- Feeling part of a team
- Gaining confidence and self esteem
