Occupational Therapy

Whether you are receiving support from our Support and Wellbeing Centre or are staying on our In-patient unit the occupational therapy team will help you to improve or maintain your abilities to carry out everyday activities or “occupations” that are meaningful and important to you.

We will empower you, and help you, to tackle and overcome any physical, environmental, psychological and social challenges that you may face – always aiming to protect your independence, dignity, wellbeing and quality of life.

We offer a full assessment and will work with you to produce a rehabilitation plan to suit you. To compliment this, we will support you to manage some of your symptoms (for example - fatigue, breathlessness, and anxiety) by providing education, advice, information and our ongoing support.  Provision of aids to daily living may help you to maintain your independence and help you to continue to enjoy the things that you like to do.

Diversional Activities

We offer a range of activities each day that aim to support pateint's well-being.  Engaging in activities can bring meaning to lives by improving motivation, self-esteem and general well-being.

Diversional activities provide a means to develop ways to adapt and cope with declining physical abilities and psychological concerns through working with our hands, bodies and minds.  They can also give us a sense of purpose and achievement during challenging times by learning or rediscovering past interests and providing opportunities for peer support.

Types of activities we provide are:

  • Craft
  • Walking
  • Quizzes
  • Listening to music
  • Games
  • Gardening

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a complementary therapy, which is a natural method of balancing mind, body and spirit. Application of essential plant oils via massage enhances health and promotes a feeling of well being.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary therapy, based on the theory that different points in the feet correspond with different areas of the body.  Reflexologists work holistically to promote better well being for their clients.

Reiki

Reiki is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.  It treats the whole person including the body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feeling of peace, security and well being.
