Hospice Volunteer Roles

Without the dedication and support of our volunteers, we would not be able to operate the service.  There are a number of opportunities for volunteering within the hospice,  details are given below.

Hospice Volunteers 

Day Therapy 

  • Befriending patients 
  • Serving drinks and meals
  • Assisting with arts, crafts and therapies
  • Walking with patients in the gardens

Volunteers usually attend one day per week, Monday to Friday, from 9.30am to 3pm.

Kitchen

  • Assisting the catering team
  • Serving meals
  • General kitchen duties

Volunteers usually attend one day per week, Monday to Friday, from 9.30am to 3pm.

(Please note this does not involve food preparation)

Drivers

  • Drivers collect and return home patients attending Day Patient Unit
  • Volunteers must have a four door car with full comprehensive insurance
  • A mileage allowance is paid

Volunteers need to be available from 9am to 10.30am and from 2.30pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday.  (Drivers can be select the days they wish to volunteer)

Reception

  • Volunteers welcome and assist patients and visitors to the Hospice
  • Answering the telephone
  • Record and direct the incoming and outgoing post
  • Pay and record petty cash payments
  • Assist with photo-copying and other duties

Volunteers attend once a week from 9.30am to 1pm and from 1pm to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Gardening

  • Volunteers assist the gardening team with weeding, planting and general garden maintenance.

Volunteers generally attend once a week between 9am - 12pm, Monday to Friday.
