HOSPICE HISTORY

Fund raising to build the Hospice began in 1986 and in 1994 with almost £500.000 raised, building work began.  The Day Care facilities opened to patients in December 1994 and in August 2007, the six bed roomed in-patient unit was also opened.  Finally in 1998 a new extension was added the house additional facilities for the busy day care unit.

In 2004 following extensive discussions to secure the hospice service for the future, it was decided that the Charity would no longer receive any regular funding, and in return the clinical costs would be met directly by the Bassetlaw Primary Care Trust.

The Charity continues to be responsible for the running costs, of the building.  The maintenance, replacement and repair of all fixtures, fittings and equipment within the building, also  the funding of all the complementary services and facilities, including, therapists and patient transport.

Today the Hospice continues to provide Day Care facilities for up to fifty patients per week and In Patient care twenty-four hours a day all year round.  Working closely with GP’s Social Workers, Macmillan, District, and Marie Curie Nurses, the Hospice has become the centre of the specialist palliative care within Bassetlaw.
